The Food Strategy is in the midst of carrying out the Thunder Bay and Area Food and Agriculture Market Study. This study is a major Priority Project of our 2015 Implementation Plan, nested within our Food Infrastructure Pillar. The goal of the study is to paint a comprehensive picture of the agri-food economy in the Thunder Bay area by collecting information on local food demand. The resulting information will provide insight into opportunities for supplying the local market to make it easier for farmers and other food businesses to act on locally relevant information, create strategies for expansion, and strategically construct future business plans. Ultimately, this research will pave the way for bringing the community more of what they want.
While research is being conducted with various sectors, the below survey is meant for individual consumers. By providing your input, we will have a better sense of consumer trends, preferences, and habits regarding local food purchasing. If you'd like to participate in an in-person interview, please stop by the Country Market on Wednesday June 28th, Saturday July 1st, or Wednesday July 5th when surveyors will be ready to talk with you. For those who do not shop at the market, surveyors will also be at Metro on River Street on Saturday June 24th at 9am, Skaf's Just Basics on Saturday July 15th at 9am, and Metro at 505 Arthur St. W on July 21st at 4:00pm.
The results of the study will be available in November 2017. For more information, contact the Food Strategy Coordinator at.
